I came across a word last week or so.
It means to travel purposefully to an as yet unknown destination.
I think that defines life. We think we know where we’re going to end up, but that isn’t always the case.
It definitely defines the journey I’m on right now. This time last year, I had just started entertaining the thought, the idea, of selling my art at a Supernatural Convention. And it terrified me. It never ever occurred to me that I would have my art signed by the cast of Supernatural.
And this time next year…who knows?
The thing is, we can live safely or we can live boldly. It’s a choice.
For about ten years, longer really, my days were very defined. Deal with my kids and work. As a programmer and creative director, I knew what to expect each day. Each month. Year to year.
It kinda got dull.
When I looked around and realised I was sleeping through my life, I knew something had to give.
New job? Nah. I think I’d make a terrible employee at this point. I haven’t had a boss for 17 years now. I only answer to my clients.
Change of career? Maybe. But what? It would have to be something entirely different.
Believe it or not, I played around with quite a few ideas. What I really wanted to do was paint pop art. Star Wars, Doctor Who and so on. But I didn’t entertain that as a possibility.
That kind of thing was for other people.
I just knew I had to do something. Apparently that something was to coddiwomple.
Now, I have no idea what’s coming up next year or in 3 months. I have plans, hopes and lots of seeds planted but really don’t know.
It’s pretty fucking exciting actually.
Regardless of where I end up, when all is said and done, I’m going to head towards it boldly and colourfully.
If you want to add some colour to your life, and maybe not throw your whole world upside down quite like I did, consider adding some art to your walls. And not your grandma’s art…but pieces that are bold, bright and reflect your interests.
Original art that will go up in value.
Prints that are easily frame-able and digitally mastered by me.
Email me to talk about buying art or hell, just pop on over to one of my social media pages and coddiwomple along with me. It’s gonna be a fun year!
